Tradition means everything

Blanco Niño makes traditional corn tortillas and tortilla chips inspired by Mexico. ‘Blanco Niño’ aka their founder Phil was frustrated in not being able to find quality tortillas here in Ireland, so decided to embark on a journey across Mexico to learn the secrets to making truly authentic tortillas. Befriending local farmers and artisans along the way. 

Returning to Ireland, Phil established Blanco Niño in the beautiful Tipperary, in 2015 – a pioneering feat, as it was one of the first tortillerias of its kind in Europe. Since then, they have been proud to work with some of the leading Mexican restaurants and chefs across Europe and are a brand recognised as producing some of the most authentic Mexican food outside of Mexico. 

Ingredient provenance and using production methods that are respectful of tradition means everything to Blanco Niño. Their team spends as much time as it takes to perfect every detail from field to fork. Their products taste incredibly authentic thanks to an ancient Aztec process called nixtamalization – a three-day cooking process. They believe this process, which uses hard-carved Mexican volcanic stones, makes their products special. 

In 2020, they launched their first corn tortilla chip, Lightly Salted, and now they have 5 flavours in the range. The tortilla chips have won an incredible 7 Great Taste Stars across four of their judged flavours which is unheard of for the category. Their gluten-free, vegan-friendly tortilla chips, have no artificial ingredients, use non-GMO corn and 100% recyclable packaging. Blanco Niño also partners with heritage producers and a social enterprise in Mexico which aims to preserve traditional farming techniques – a small but meaningful way of supporting the country they owe their existence to.
